"The Italian soprano looked glamorous in designer Willa Kim's lavish, high-waisted gowns. In her singing, Dessi honored her own dictum that Tosca should be sung, not screamed: This was a lyrical rather than a dramatic vocal performance, culminating in a sensitively sung "Vissi d'arte".

CHICAGO TRIBUNE - John von Rhein - January 16, 2001

"Dessi's performance of "Vissi d'arte," Tosca's unanswered prayer in Act II, made it clear why this is one of opera's most beloved arias. Her voice hushed and wondering, she spoke directly to the God she truly adored. Gone was Tosca the imperious diva, the jealous lover portrayed so well in Dessi's steely-edged soprano. As if trying to reason with a beloved father, she asked why she was being punished when she had tried so hard to live a generous, blameless life. Natural and unaffected, her soprano caressed Puccini's lilting song. That her plea went unanswered was heart-breaking."

The Chicago Sun-Times - Wynne Delacoma -  January 15 2001
